Debt Collection Index is an independent directory of US debt collection agencies that have passed human verification against public records. Only agencies with an active surety bond on file with the state regulator are ranked, ordered by recognised certifications and years bonded, with a complaint-handling score from public CFPB records in final validation. Rankings are never for sale.

Which debt collection agencies are verified?

Only agencies with an active Texas surety bond are listed. Order: verified certifications, then years bonded. A complaint-handling score built from CFPB records is in final validation and will lead this ranking once published. Full rules in the methodology.

Common questions about the directory

What does "verified" mean on Debt Collection Index?

A verified agency has passed a human review against public records before publication: its identity, its licensing or surety bond status with the state regulator, and any certifications, each checked against the official register and shown with a source link and a last-checked date.

Which agencies handle commercial or B2B debt in Texas?

Each agency profile lists the debt types it handles where that has been verified, including commercial and B2B recovery. Open a profile to see debt types, bond status and certifications, all drawn from public records with sources and dates shown.

How do I use the CFPB complaint database to vet a collection agency?

Search the agency’s name at consumerfinance.gov’s Consumer Complaint Database: it is free, public, and downloadable, showing complaints and how the company responded. Read it the way the CFPB itself advises: complaints "are not necessarily representative of all consumers’ experiences" and narratives "are not verified before publication", and low volume is not proof of clean conduct. Look for patterns and, above all, at how the agency responds. A complaint is a record, not a verdict; this site links each listed agency’s record for exactly this purpose.
